A day at South Beach Jan.12

We woke up and decided that the weather was gonna be beautiful, so we decided to drive to Miami Beach and spend the day in the sun and sand. We went straight north on Rt 1 from Homestead, and I saw what I missed when I decided to take a back way when I was riding from Little Havana to Homestead. Rt 1 was just a steady diet of strip malls and businesses all the way to Miami Beach. It passed the University of Miami, and the busway paralleled the road the entire distance, so a biker could have ridden on that the whole way. There were a million red lights to go with the beautifully landscaped median strip. It was really a neat ride, having never done it before.
We parked very close to the beach, for $10, both surprises to me. We saw everything you would expect to see at South Beach: outdoor restaurants, sand volleyball games, gyms set up outdoors near the beach, college kids(drinking is legal on the beach), lifeguards who wouldn't let you go further out than chest deep( yes, I got whistled for being out too far), a photo shoot with models and 5 lighting and make up guys, topless women, (my neck is starting to feel better), and people being catered to with massages on the beach, beach beds with mattresses and sheets, cabana boys fetching drinks, and every language being spoken that you could imagine.
After enjoying the sand, we walked around Southpointe Park boardwalk near the Miami Beach Marina, ate at  the only reasonable joint we could find besides a 7/11. It was called Big Pink, and it was really good, a little off the beaten path, but worth looking for. We were gonna go out clubbing and do up the night,( ha ha) but we were home by 9:30.

I did not post the other picture that Mike took that "accidently" had a topless sunbather in the background!
